CANTO - New Premises will Benefit Students and Staff
The Client CANTO Learning provides learning and life skills for young adults with severe learning difficulties and special educational needs. The business is based in Northampton.
Overview: Instructed: January 2015 │ Completed: March 2016
Property: 15,000 sq ft on 1.5 acres freehold
Property Need CANTO Learning were seeking to move to larger premises to accommodate their growing numbers of students and scope of educational provision. The plan included moving from rented premises at Moulton Park Industrial Estate in Northampton to a purchased property, giving long-term stability for sustainable development and potential growth. The organisation had a long list of very specific needs that needed to be met, which included adequate outside space for student activities, easy access to public transport and adequate parking for student pick-up by taxis and parents, all within a very tight budget. CANTO Founder, Barrie Willis and Head of Centre, Charlotte Dear, had been looking for a suitable building for about a year without success and it was through discussing the issue with their Lloyds Relationship Manager, Richard Fear, that they were introduced to Jonathan Hand of Talkspace.
Talkspace Solution Appointed to help with the property search Talkspace quickly identified a number of possible properties, although none of them quite fell into place. It wasn’t long before Jonathan found a 15,000 sq ft building which stood on 1.5 acres on the market that had been earmarked for residential development. Even though the property went to best and final offers and there was considerable interest from other parties, Jonathan was able to negotiate a purchase. Supported by funding from Lloyds Bank, completion took place at the end of March 2016 and CANTO Learning is set to move in August 2016.
“I thought I was quite open-minded when it came to suitability of different properties, but Jonathan was able to offer suggestions that I hadn’t considered. He seems to have a creative mind and see the potential in a property I wouldn’t have considered without his help. He was really able to understand the needs of the business and had the right contacts with local agents to find the right property.”Charlotte Dear, Head of Centre, CANTO Learning
“If Jonathan had not been involved in the process, CANTO would not now be in a building suitable for not just now but also future expansion. I have also been impressed with how Jonathan has kept me up-to date with the process as things developed.” Richard Fear, Relationship Manager, SME, Lloyds Bank Northampton
