Finding Business Premises - A ticking time bomb?
The further up the chain of command we are and the more successful our business becomes, the more demands on our time there seems to be. Success often means growth and within the mix of strategic decisions to be made in a growing business is whether the current premises is fit for purpose or whether it’s time to relocate or extend.
Making this decision and acting on it can be challenging and pressured. It is not something that happens routinely in a business and most people underestimate how much time it takes to search and find premises that come close to matching their criteria. I’m often contacted at the point at which the business owner has exhausted their time, patience and interest in the project.
In between helping companies find and negotiate commercial property, I spend a great deal of time raising awareness of the things that need to be considered before the move itself can take place. Most recently I worked with PremierLine Business Insurance, part of the Allianz Group, to produce a comprehensive ‘Guide to Business Premises’.
Premierline is a long standing commercial insurance provider, specialising in sourcing and tailoring the right insurance solutions for micro and small businesses throughout the UK. The company has been established since 2001 and is part of the global Allianz group, one of the world’s leading financial service providers. They contacted me after receiving an increasing and continuous number of calls from customers asking for advice about relocation. After realising that there are a large number of small business owners currently seeking advice about relocation, the idea of a blog was discussed so as to give help and tips on business premises from industry experts.
Based on my advice alone, it was soon clear that there was enough advice and content to extend beyond a single blog and instead produce an online guide that covers everything from making the decision to move, to finding, negotiating and relocating into new premises.
The guide, which also includes contributions from Marc Benger, Managing Director of comparemymove.com, Paul Bagust, Director of Commercial Property Professional Group at RICS (the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) and Alex McLaggan, Chartered Broker of Premier Business Care, went live on PremierLine’s website on 24th May 2016. It can be downloaded by clicking on the following link https://www.premierline.co.uk/knowledge-centre/a-guide-to-business-premises.html
So, if the continued success of your business depends on moving or changing your premises, then now is the time to read the guide or get in touch to discuss your options. It will save you time in the long run.
